"Hi, I'm Richard Gere and I'm speaking for the entire world."

I shit you not.

Aaron says: "Look, this is admirable and all, but Gere is a Buddhist from the Great Satan who wears makeup for a living and is probably best known for a film where he falls in love with a whore. I'm pretty sure his very existence is a stoning offense in some parts of Palestine."
  • Current Mood: indescribable indescribable
Isn't it mind-bogglingly laughable? (insanity and humor all at once!)

When I first saw this earlier today I thought a headline from TheOnion had slipped into the mainstream news media somehow. Good grief. Life imitates Satire.
Oh, I know! When I started reading it at FreeWill, I thought Aaron was making a joke!

(And he was... a joke named Gere. I still get a warm fuzzy feeling when I think of him getting booed at that NYC concert.)
"Hi, I'm Richard Gere and I'm speaking for the entire world."

he can do that coz he is American
No, he can say it because he's an American. He does say it because he's a Hollywood liberal with toast for brains.

But God... if he doesn't amuse me.
No, he can say it because he's an American

i really hope there is some sarcasme in it from your side
if not the question : so only the "good" americans can speak for the rest of the world ?

LOL..

Well.. we all know that the L-word is a four letter word and the downfall of the world. Thus how can any one liberal be a good American.
Note the original italics. He can say stupid things because in America you have the right to say what you want, even if you're a moron ;)
I wouldn't say he does it because he's a liberal. I'd say he does it because he has mush for brains. Maybe he feels he's helping although I don't know how.

Saying that he's doing because he is a liberal is demeaning to the term.
I wouldn't say he does it because he's a liberal. I'd say he does it because he has mush for brains.

Well you know me... I don't believe the two are mutually exclusive ;)
jeez alli why do you find the need to constantly insulting people that think political different then you?
so its cool to call your friends morons ,coz every liberal is one

to me thats beyond politics
It's a joke, hon. Ann and everyone know that I'm a right-wing extremist... they put up with me anyway. It's really not a mortal offence.
It doesn't matter what his political views are. He thinks he can speak for billions of people. *That's* what opens him up for insulting comments back.

In my not so humble opinion. *g*
i wasnt talking about richard gere

but it is however very funny that when its US elections no one seems to have a problem with celeberties speaking for the whole country

not that i think richard has anything meaningfull to say in my behalf
but it is however very funny that when its US elections no one seems to have a problem with celeberties speaking for the whole country

heheh. sooo not true.
Didn't miss them. That doesn't mean people didn't think that the 'stars' involved were big dumbasses (especially since it came out later that a lot of them, especially the younger ones, didn't even bother to vote themselves.)
I don't have a problem with celebs encouraging us to go vote, but yes I still have a problem with anyone who isn't "official" trying to speak *for* an entire nation. Even during our elections.
LOL from the article: While Gere was chosen for his star appeal, it's not clear how much celebrity status he has in the occupied territories. "I've never heard of him before," Hanah said of his co-star.

Well not that I don't think one should support the elections but the ... (finish anyway you'd like).
You took the words right out of my...fingers. ;o) I don't remember giving him permission to speak for me, dammit.
