Poll finds optimism after divisive election

Hopefully something can span the divisiveness.

But then as was said on The Daily Show on election night, it'll be easier for Bush this time as he actually won the election this time. Last time he stole it, and that's much harder to recover from. ;)
*laughs* That's what's terrifying the wackos, you know... the notion of him actually having a mandate that meets their definition.
It's certainly not the mandate that John Howard had in the Australian election, but at least it wasn't decided through a law suit.
And that page doesn't make me want to bend over and try to make peace with republicans, I'll tell you that.

It's the sort of thing I was talking about in a post I made earlier today. Sad, really.
I'll have to ask you to clarify. Of course what? That it's sad or that it doesn't make me want to go out of my way to be civil because I happen to be one of the wackos he (and you, apparently) want to dismiss?

Question - when haven't I been civil to you? I've always respected your opinion, even when you don't respect mine.

A bit hurt here.
Of course it's not going to be a blog you like, the same way I don't go over to Daily Kos or DU looking for warm fuzzy feelings. And I don't consider myself any more dismissive than the people who refer to conservatives like myself as homophobic paranoid democracy/free speech-hating Bible-thumping retards who want all women barefoot and pregnant. I know not to take that personally.
I don't mind conservative blogs...some of them are interesting. This one is just inflammatory and rude. I'm not looking for warm, fuzzy feelings, but I wasn't expecting to be called a loser or a wacko.

The people who say all conservatives are homophobic, etc...aren't any better, but shouldn't you try to be? Or maybe you really do think of people like me as wackos and I was just making the assumption that you respected my opinion.

I did take the wacko comment personally, btw.
Hey, different tastes. I love Lee's blog, although I disagree with him all the time. If nothing else he's good for a chuckle, he finds interesting stories often buried in the MSM, and he occassionally makes good points. And hey, it's his blog... just like a lj-based blog, I assume he has the right to speak his viewpoint. And honestly, yes, I believe there are liberal wackos out there. Not all of them, but some. If you assumed it was a reference to you, it wasn't meant to be.
If you assumed it was a reference to you, it wasn't meant to be.

Thank you for that, because the way you said it and after reading that blog, it did feel that way.

I do respect your opinion and very often you find some of the most interesting articles out there. I would never hear some of the conservative sides of things if it weren't for you. Obviously, the guy has the right to say his mind, but I think the rest of us do as well and shouldn't be labeled whacko, etc... just because we disagree on policy, morality or the administration (not that I don't know there are some. My workmate just said Bush was "satan" and I'm not so sure she was kidding). I wouldn't call you a wacko because you voted for the man, are pro-choice and against gay marriage even though we disagree. Honestly, you're one of the most conservative people I know and I've never thought that about you. Vocal, yes - wacko, not so much.

Obviously, the guy has the right to say his mind, but I think the rest of us do as well and shouldn't be labeled whacko, etc

But see, that's the thing with free speech... we have the freedom to say what we want, and others have the freedom to respond in kind. It's a two way street no matter what side you're on.

And I'm one of the most conservative people you know? Girl, you need to get out more... I'm middle of the road compared to some people ;)

Ah, but see, that's one of the things that bothers me so much about it all. I don't see how anyone can ever expect people to get along while they're calling each other names.

If one were really interested in encouraging civility between the parties/sides/etc...you'd think they wouldn't start off by calling them losers, eh? I'm not actually talking just about Lee here, since I recognize his is an online blog and not likely to be encouraging a meeting of the sides anytime soon, but there are news anchors and real journalists out there saying we'd all be better off if the liberals (or conservatives) just up and died.

Yes, sometimes its scary to see how little we've evolved from the playground ;)

but there are news anchors and real journalists out there saying we'd all be better off if the liberals (or conservatives) just up and died.

It's completely wrong for NEWS people to be taking sides in that way.
