weekend

Why is it that I always feel like I spend a ton of money on food every week and it still seems like I never have anything in the house to eat?

...

The weather has been gorgeous this weekend, and we're supposed to be sunny and in the 70s most if not all of the coming week. I'm officially taking the flannel sheets off my bed and putting on my new cotton set. They're cream-colored, which means they will shortly be cat fur-colored. But I'm wearing shorts, the windows and doors are open and the sky is a spotless blue. Thanks for showing up eventually, spring.

...

I was going to go get my car detailed today, now that there's no imminent rain forecasted, but I've been doing housework since I got up and now I'm not in the mood to go out. I wonder how late they're open on weekdays...

Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister

I just watched the TV movie adaptation of Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire. I was surprised by how faithful the movie was to the book; although it leaves off some of the darker aspects of the plot, such as Margarethe poisoning Henrika and the 'gallery of God's mistakes', overall the plot follows very closely and there was even a little dialog that I think was taken right from the book. (It ends on a happier note, too -- although sometimes I think Maguire ended the book the way he did just because he likes being depressing.) It's certainly closer to the source material than the musical Wicked.

Anyway. I caught a bit of it, halfway through, on TV, and hunted down the whole thing online. If you have 90 minutes or so to kill, have a go at it :)

dreckitude

Have you ever been tempted to re-read a book that you thought was awful, just to see if it's as bad as you remember?

(Actually, Dawn Cook's wasn't structurally bad as much as her screwing around with the reader's heart seriously PISSED ME OFF. And I constantly have to keep myself from thinking about how popular Goodkind's dreck is. It just makes me want to cry. Or throw up.)
