All things considered

... it's been a pretty good day. I got to go home an hour early because we were overstaffed. I found out that I don't have to go to the training session Saturday and Sunday because, since I'm only working until the end of August, I'm not really worth it ;) The bad side of that is I may have to go to my mom's cousin Gail's memorial service instead (she died last week of brain cancer. Don't smoke, people).

I didn't really know Gail all that well, and that whole side of the family is majorly screwed up (Gail's brother Dale is currently going through his 3rd divorce; his girlfriend - who is half his age - is living in his house while his soon-to-be-ex sleeps in the kids' room). Plus, it was 103 today, and it's supposed to be just as hot tomorrow.

Sigh.

Hee.

At Heathrow airport, a 300-foot long red carpet is stretched out to Air Force One, and President Bush strides to a warm but dignified handshake from Queen Elizabeth II. They ride in a silver 1934 Bentley limousine to the edge of central London, where they board an open 17th century coach hitched to six magnificent white matching horses.

As they ride toward Buckingham Palace, each is looking sideways and waving to the thousands of cheering Brits lining the streets. All is going well, when suddenly the right rear horse lets fly with the most horrendous, earth-rending, eye-smarting blast of gastronomic flatulence ever heard in the British Empire, including Bermuda, Tortola and the Falkland Islands. It shakes the coach. Uncomfortable, but under control, the two dignitaries of state do their best to ignore the whole incident, but then the Queen decides that was ridiculous. She turns to Mr. Bush and explains, "Mr.President, please accept my regrets... I'm sure you understand that there are some things that even a Queen cannot control."

George W. Bush, ever the gentleman, replies, "Your Majesty, please don't give the matter another thought...... You know, if you hadn't said something, I would have thought it was one of the horses."

Yay

Got my private single room back for next year. No roomie! Woohoo!

Of course, it's tiny... about the next step up from living in a closet. But it's my closet, dammit!
