Outline 2: Revenge of the Outline

Dear God this is happening.

(And, see, this is why Scrivener is awesome. I mean, okay, I guess I mean outlining is awesome, but I can't outline without Scrivener so my point stands. Anyway, I can see just from looking at this that dude how is there no Clint in Part 3 yet; I must rectify this.)

And yes I'm expanding the roster to include Maria and may even end up with a little Steve/Maria and it's all tielan's fault.
  • Current Mood: crazy crazy
I'm not sure that I 100% buy it, but it just seems like a good idea.

Plus, Steve on his motorcycle + Maria (well okay Cobie on HIMYM) in leather on a motorcycle... it feels right, ya know?
.....are we getting a White Blank Page sequel?

SIDENOTE ONLY NOT REALLY:

I was rereading White Blank Page today and it is even better the second time (I actually caught all the foreshadowing with Aten! Which I felt like an idiot for missing the first time!) and EVEN KNOWING WHAT HAPPENS AND THAT IT ENDS WELL I was ridiculously anxious reading this fic BECAUSE YOU ARE THAT GOOD OF A WRITER.

Bravo.
Aww thank you *smoochies*

And yes a sequel has kind of been in the works at least mentally since I finished WBP and couldn't bring myself to kill off a bunch more OCs ;) I just needed some time before writing it so I could recover from the insanity that was That Story. But now I'm thinking it might be my NaNo project.
*facepalms* In a few weeks when I'm ranting and raving, please remind me that I voluntarily signed up for this.
tielan! DO THE DANCE OF JOY!

*DOES THE DANCE OF JOY!*

*coughs* Maria will be very good. And Steve/Maria will be WONDERFUL! :D

I have to work out how to use Scrivener PRONTO. Before NaNo. Because otherwise this monster of a story is going to be beyond monstrous. *winces*
Scrivener is so awesome, really.

*watches tielan do the dance of joy, which is a little Snoopy Happydance meets Riverdance*
Any requests for what you'd like to see Maria doing? I mean besides being a BAMF.

Honestly I'm a little afraid of under-utilizing her.
Hm. I'd say use Maria as a SHIELD agent with a little more punch than most. Yes, she follows the book most of the time, but she's not above getting her hands dirty, or taking risks as she feels is needed.

I'd also like to see her be used as a 'connector' side to Clint and/or Natasha - between them and 'ordinary people'. Clint and Natasha are freakishly good at what they do - crazy outliers, doing the inhumanly possible - while I see Maria as being at the top of the humanly possible scale. (Driving backwards while firing at a car driven by a SHIELD agent, containing a weapon of inestimable power takes her out of the 'ordinary' category; so, too, does playing the Council for blackmail material.)

My headcanon is that Maria was assigned to 'acclimatise' Natasha to the US after her defection, and during that time they developed a respect for each other and a kind of affection; Maria is one of the people Natasha trusts behind the wheel and to watch her back, Natasha is one of the people Maria trusts to be plain with her without making it personal.

I think that's one more reason why Maria likes Steve, actually; because he's plain-speaking and she plays enough politics in her professional life to find a man who doesn't doublespeak attractive.

eta: Okay. Having spent the last three hours re-reading White Blank Page, I'm going to do a bit more organising of my thoughts. Judging by the outline, I'm assuming you're going to follow the same kind of story style/format that you did with White Blank Page?

Thoughts for Maria:
- the formal contact between SHIELD and the Avengers. Respect, at the least, even if they don't like each other.
- shown with a history of working with Clint and/or Natasha (possibly with details that inform the present).
- bringing up an objection that is either ignored or dismissed only to be proven right, and then not gloating, just solving the problem.
- being ruthless (I have this scene in my head where Maria performs an execution because she has to - either to keep someone else from having to do it, or because she feels that the loss of information is worth the surety of never having to watch out for this person again.)

I also like the idea of Steve comes to the realisation that he likes Maria, and she's slightly stunned because she's been seeing him as a resource, not as a man and it throws her completely out of whack. *looks quietly hopeful*

I think for the purposes of the story, Maria is going to be put in a difficult situation because of SHIELD politics, a position where she's going to publicly need to be distrustful of them. And for continuity's sake I need there to be some wariness between her and Clint, specifically. But I like the idea of a relationship of some kind between her and Nat, and that's something I can explore in the before-flashbacks.

(We watched the movie last night - sis-in-law's request on her birthday - and now all I can think is "COULSON! COULSON! YOU WERE THE GREATEST MAN I EVER KNEW!")

- being ruthless (I have this scene in my head where Maria performs an execution because she has to - either to keep someone else from having to do it, or because she feels that the loss of information is worth the surety of never having to watch out for this person again.)

Hmm. I've had this scene in the back of my head that calls for some ruthlessness, and I was planning on it being Nat who had to make the call, but it might be interesting if it could be Maria...
