House Republicans to Resume Floor Protest on American Energy Monday
Washington, Aug 3 - House Republicans will be back on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives again Monday to continue the unprecedented protest that began last Friday, when dozens of Republicans joined hundreds of American citizens on the House floor to protest Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) decision to send Congress home for the rest of the summer without a vote on legislation to lower gas prices and move America toward energy independence.

In an urgent memo sent to GOP Members and staff Saturday (“A Call to Action on American Energy”), Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) and Whip Roy Blunt (R-MO) hailed Friday’s action, which was led by Reps. Mike Pence (R-IN), Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA), Tom Price (R-GA), and others, and encouraged House Republicans to return to the Capitol beginning Monday morning to help keep the historic effort going.

“It’s not a request we make lightly. But the American people are suffering,” Boehner and Blunt said in the memo. “The consequences of continued congressional inaction on gas prices are unacceptable. We’ve called on the Speaker to call Congress back into an emergency session this month and schedule a vote on the American Energy Act. We must continue to make a stand until the Speaker complies.”

But guys, she's on her book tour!

Seriously, though, I hope they get more video. And stories like this:
Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) just pretended to be a Democrat. He stood on the other side of the chamber and listed all of the GOP bills that the Dems killed.

He then said, “I am a Democrat, and here is my energy plan” and he held up a picture of an old VW Bug with a sail attached to it. He paraded around the House floor with the sign while the crowd cheered.

Sorry to break it to you
But the Republicans have been ripping you off for the past seven years. They ran Congress for six of the last seven years and where did that get us ? They have given the Oil Cos. billions of dollars in tax relief and where did that get us ? The Oil Cos. are only currently utilizing about 40% of the area they have existing rights to drill in, yet they want more free soil to drill on from the American people, areas they can't drill for at least ten years due to lack of capacity, or interest.

Right after McCain flip flopped from being against this to being for it he received $1.5 million in donations in the first week after, from Oil Industry Execs. Tell me, who is this really benefiting ? What is so bad about the Democrats request to tie increased drilling with a comprehensive energy plan that gets us off of oil ?

Do you know even with this additional drilling, prices won't be materially affected, and even then, it'll take up to a decade ? Do you know that the Republicans voted down an amendment last week to stop oil speculation, the true reason for the recent spike in price ?

Of course not, thats why you support this nonsense.
Re: Sorry to break it to you
A portion of what's driving up gas prices in this country is oil speculating. A clear demonstration that new sources will be available (such as a vote to allow drilling again, or to expand refineries) will cause speculators to sell their 'shares' of oil (which they don't physically possess, only hold rights to purchase and trade) and thus decrease the price at the pump, RIGHT NOW. Yes, alternative energy sources need to be found, but one way to have an instant impact on gas prices is to convince the speculators that oil futures are about to become a less profitable investment.
