*cries* Why am I having such a hard time writing sexytiems? This should be like THE BEST THING TO WRITE EVER but it's being difficult and that's making me sad.

Wah.

ETA: Okay, coming along a little easier now... although, er, maybe that's not the best way to put it...

TIME FOR FOOD.

When I've tried to write sex scenes, I've run into the same problem I have with action scenes (because, well, it is one, after all) - one of the reasons I was so ::facepalm:: and "I should've thought of that" about bob5fic's advice about know what was going to happen first? Is because that's how I used to write sex scenes. So, in the for what it's worth department, you could always try writing out the blocking and then use that as a reference when doing the actual prose? I hope it decides to cooperate. I'm excited to read the finished product someday!

:D
See, my first problem is that as much as I enjoy reading smut, I don't really write it. I hope I haven't been guilty of the 'fade to black->cigarette' trope, but, well, probably close. I started writing fic in high school, after all. The scenes in my earlier C/N fic were probably the most explicit I've done, and I'm just not much into the 'insert tab A into slot B' style anyway. Any more than, like you kind of said, you want an action scene written as though it's meant for a choreographer.

What's working so far is moving away from the physicalness and getting more into the characters' heads, and then backfilling what's going on body-wise. I like to think of it as the prose version of those very clever edits during sex scenes in movies :D
Ok - my initial reaction when you said that you don't write smut? (and ok, variable definitions of "smut" I suppose):

You lying liar, I've read "An Arrow Discarded" and "Out is Through"!!! ;)

Ok, again, depends on your definition of "smut" - but I prefer really intense intimate Feels to really graphic descriptions of physical acts any day. Which may not be the case for everyone, but. It's still a really awesome way to do it.

What your describing doing sounds like an awesome way to go about it, however.

(Speaking of AAD and OiT (because I'm a terrible person and haven't done the kind of response/commenting on fics I really should do): that is one of the BEST depictions of anxiety attacks I've seen written. Uncomfortably so, but then, that's part of the point. I really do love those stories. A lot.)
LOL I guess I usually think of smut as that category of more explicit stuff... the NC-17 worthy instead of the R, you know? But I know everyone's definition is different. I just try not to make myself uncomfortable lol

Absolutely.

Thanks. I've had an anxiety attacks for the last decade or so, so I figured it was something I could write about with authority :)

This! I enjoy explicit stuff (but will probably never be able to write it myself- 'Once Was Lost' was as explicit as it gets for me), but only if there are Feels involved. Without Feels it seems like I could be reading any kind of erotica with the names of characters thrown in. THERE MUST BE FEELS IN MY PORN.
