So, if an american soldier (let's say, with european roots) would've done it, it would be called amok and if someone with middle-eastern roots does it, he's a terrorist? Now that's seriously racist.
If someone with European roots had done it after attending a terrorist-approved mosque, I would still have serious questions. I think when it comes down to it, this has more in common with the workplace shooting in Orlando than an actual terrorist attack. But the picture we're getting of Hasan shows there were serious red flags that should have gotten someone's attention.
We'll see, once he wakes up from that coma. Which is one of the signs (for me, at least) that it had nothing to do with radicalism - he didn't kill himself. Remember the whole "40 virgins" part?
He cleaned out his apartment and said goodbye to his neighbors, then waded into a group of soldiers with two guns blazing. No way did this guy expect to survive the attack.
I'd like to know the first thing he thought when he woke up (assuming he regained consciousness before the coma -- if not, then whenever he comes out of it). Probably something along the lines of, "Oh SHIT."
I had expressed regret that he didn't get an extra bullet to the brainpan at the scene, but someone pointed out to me that dying while murdering "infidels" gets him into heaven -- so in retrospect I'm wondering if there's some time limit, where we can keep him in prison until his chance for heavenly virgins passes, *then* execute him.
The guy repeatedly talked about how homicide bombers were big heroes. We're not supposed to draw a conclusion from that? Whatever. That's not exactly jumping to conclusions. As Buffy once said, "I took a tiny step, and there conclusions were!"

Although I also heard the whole 'virgins' thing is a mistranslation, and what they really get is raisins.
